Born in Berlin, Albert Zabel (1835-1910) was a protoge of the composer, Meyerbeer. After concert tours in Europe and America, he moved to Russia. IN 1854 he became harpist to the Imperial Ballet and Professor at the St. Petersburg Conservatoire. His compositions are in the grand Romantic tradition and his Springbrunnen (The Fountain) is perhaps one of the best known harp compositions in the world. Edited by David Watkins.
